Rare Disease Biotech, Global P&C Assessment and Requirements

A leading biotech company focused on developing and commercializing innovative therapies for rare and serious genetic diseases was looking to evaluate current global pricing management processes to improve pricing accuracy for orders/invoices and to implement key recommendations toward improvement.
CHALLENGES
  • Global pricing definitions and entry timing were not harmonized across systems, leading to misalignment and issues with pricing accuracy
  • Data was siloed, system integration was limited, and there was no centralized repository for contract prices, impacting efficiency and transparency
  • Pricing systems lacked customer-specific dimensions, making it difficult to translate and apply prices accurately downstream
  • Teams prioritized order fulfillment over pricing accuracy, resulting in frequent discrepancies and revenue adjustments
  • Pricing and contracting processes lacked maturity and governance, contributing to operational issues and inefficiencies across the organization
SOLUTION
  • Conducted an E2E assessment of pricing management across people, process, data, & technology, through direct stakeholder interviews across global geographies
  • Identified a series of organizational, tactical, and project-based recommendations including:
    • Remediation of process documentation gaps; Capture Requirements & Conduct a Vendor Assessment for Future Pricing & Contracting and CLM solutions; Establish key organizational roles to lead global Pricing & Market Access functions (Business & IT) as per industry best practices
  • Assessed risk and prioritized recommendations with included timeline & phasing, high-level budget estimates, potential vendors/technology solutions, and future state application landscape
RESULTS
  • Detailed root cause analysis that provided insight into the recurrence of pricing discrepancies, operational challenges, and financial reporting issues
  • Actionable short- and long-term recommendations to mitigate issues contributing to pricing inaccuracies across organization, process, and technology – with the comprehensive roadmap enabling strategic prioritization & implementation
  • Ability to readily conduct a formal vendor evaluation for a P&C solution using the high-level vendor capabilities overview and detailed User Stories & Functional/Technical Requirements repository
  • Mitigated audit risk with all pricing related upstream and downstream processes fully documented including Level 1 & 2 process flows, RACI, and detailed steps with handoffs to 3rd Party Providers where applicable
